New Culinary Talent from Switzerland
The most coveted prize in Swiss gastronomy was awarded April 7th to a 32-year-old chef from the Pont de Brent restaurant. Stéphane Décotterd, who won the Cuisinier d’Or contest held in Bern, will go on to represent his country at the Bocuse d’Or Europe competition July 1-2 in Stavanger, Norway, and at the Bocuse d’Or World Cuisine Contest in Lyon, France in 2009. The six finalists in the Cuisinier d’Or event were called upon to prepare a fish dish and a meat dish for 12 people in five hours. Décotterd won over the 14-member jury with his Norwegian salmon and his Bénichon lamb composition.“Competing at this level is both a technical and a personal challenge for any chef,” said Décotterd. “It’s an opportunity to see how you measure up to other professionals and to get out of your own kitchen for a bit – and of course to become better known.”As a Swiss company, Nespresso takes special pride in being a partner for the Cuisinier d’Or competition.
